
ABOUT Gus
Gus Bower was born in Newport, Rhode Island in 1948. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1970 with a BA in history. After graduation he moved to San Francisco where he lived for 30 years. While in the Bay Area, he studied photography and darkroom techniques at College of Marin in Kentfield, California.
After discovering black and white street photography, Gus immersed himself in the study of the masters: Robert Frank, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Lee Friedlander and Garry Winogrand. In 2003 he had a solo exhibit at Photolab Gallery in Berkley, California.
Gus worked 20 years as a credentialed photographer on the pro tennis circuit. After moving to Little Rock, he self-published, Players, a book of his tennis photos, in 2024.
